Sally Anne Hess

Sally is an APA Sports and Exercise Physiotherapist with over 30 years’ experience. After graduating in 1986 from the University of Queensland, Sally was later awarded her PhD in 2007. She has worked extensively in many areas of the profession, including lecturing at the University of Queensland to both undergraduates and post-graduate students, private practice in a city and rural setting as well as in the public system, specialising in the management of shoulder pathology. Sally has worked with many sporting teams and elite athletes in areas of baseball, cricket, rugby, basketball, tennis, trampolining and athletics. She continues to conduct postgraduate courses and lectures on the shoulder.

While working at the University of Queensland, Sally developed a keen interest in the sporting shoulder, subsequently continuing to complete her PhD investigating muscle activation and pain in athletes, in the athletic shoulder. For the past 20 years, Sally has specialised in physiotherapy management of the shoulder, including the sporting shoulder, pre- and post-operative shoulder and management of complex shoulder conditions.


Sally has a passion for educating and keeps abreast with the current research on the shoulder and exercise prescription to enhance treatment methods with her patients, incorporating both hydrotherapy and exercise prescription in a home and gym setting.
